UNDERSTANDING THE ISBP: THE NEW ICC DOCUMENT ON INTERNATIONAL STANDARD BANKING PRACTICE
20th May 2003, Paris

In February 2003, ICC's long-awaited publication "International Standard Banking Practice for the Examination of Documents under Documentary Credits" was published. Popularly called ISBP, the publication documents what international banking practice is when it comes to applying UCP 500, ICC's universally used rules on documentary credits. Figures show that 60% to 70% of documents are rejected on first presentation. Apparent discrepancies, personal opinions, differing interpretations - even typing errors - can cause documents to be rejected. By encouraging uniformity of practice, ISBP is expected to reduce rejections substantially.

Now, for the first time, the authors of the ISBP explain how the document came to be created and discuss in depth individual issues in the publication that have caused the most discussion.

This conference will be relevant to all users of documentary credits - banks, corporations, applicants, beneficiaries and lawyers.

Participants

Discussion topics will be of particular interest to bankers, traders, corporate counsels, lawyers, business professionals and academics wishing to acquire and increase their knowledge of the documentary credit system.

The programme is designed in such a way to ensure full interaction between the panelists and the gathered audience. A discussion period will take place after each session.
